K-pop sensations Blackpink released their sophomore album “Born Pink” and a music video for the title track “Shut Down” on Friday.
“Shut Down,” the album’s lead single, introduces a new twist on the group’s signature hip-hop sound by sampling Paganini’s classical “La Campanella.” Their previous songs were heavily referenced in the lyrics and music video.
“Ready for Love” and “Pink Venom,” as well as “Typa Girl,” “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” “The Happiest Girl,” “Tally,” and Rosé’s solo song “Hard to Love,” are included on “Born Pink.”
“Pink Venom,” which was released in August, spent two weeks at the top of Billboard’s Global 200 before falling to second place in the third week. Its music video also received 300 million views on YouTube just hours before “Born Pink” was released.
The new songs are expected to be performed by Blackpink during their upcoming world tour, which begins in October. The “Born Pink” tour will visit at least 25 cities on four continents. The Manila leg is scheduled for March 25, 2023.
Blackpink, comprised of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, debuted in 2016 under top K-pop label YG Entertainment. All of “Boombayah,” “As if It’s Your Last,” “DDU DU DDU DU,” and “How You Like That” were hits.
