Typhoon Agaton (international name: Megi) caused flooding and severe rain in the Visayas and Mindanao, killing one person and injuring two more.
According to a report released on Monday by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the fatalities were from Davao Region, while those injured were from Northern Mindanao.
It also stated that approximately 3,700 families have been placed and have sought refuge in 71 evacuation centers in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Region.
There were power outages or shortages in 15 cities and municipalities. Four locations’ electricity supply has already been restored.
Malacaang said in a statement on Monday that the executive branch has been “closely monitoring” Agaton’s progress and that all hands were on deck to assist impacted citizens.
According to the Palace, the NDRRMC is collaborating with disaster councils in typhoon-affected areas to bolster relief efforts.
The acting presidential spokesperson Secretary Martin Andanar urged the people to be attentive and follow the instructions of authorities for preemptive evacuation.
“Coordinate with authorities if you need to evacuate in your areas,” he advised.
PAGASA, the state meteorological service, announced on Monday morning that Agaton had reduced to a tropical depression, but that signal No. 1 remained in place across 11 locations across the nation.
