In Japan, a 28-year-old sumo wrestler who got infected with the novel coronavirus has died, becoming the first sumo wrestler to die from the deadly virus, as of the report of the public broadcaster of NHK on Wednesday, citing the Japan Sumo Association.

According to NHK, Shobushi, who wrestled in the fourth-tier sandanme division, died in a Tokyo hospital due to multiple organ failure related to the coronavirus.

He had tested positive for the coronavirus disease on April 10.

Shobushi, who belonged to the Takadagawa stable, made his debut in 2007.

The wrestler, who was hospitalized last month, died on Wednesday in a Tokyo hospital due to multiple organ failure related to the coronavirus, said NHK.

  1. Very sad to hear..a very healthy strong Sumo person, died just because of a covid virus in a very sophisticated prominent hospital in Japan.
    Condelences…Iam sad , may be he was used as sacrifice-experiment for inventing medicine and vaccine for the virus..My sister (36Yrs old) also died in Tokyo Hospital, 1year ago.
