The controversial hostage-taking of Archie Paray turns the tides of society.
Paray doesn’t want anything bad to happen, he just wants to be heard. He made a statement that may send a wave to crash upon the unjust work environments in the country. Based on the report of Manila Bulletin, the House Committee on Labor and Employment decided to undergo a congressional inquiry. They said they would not focus on the incident, but on the injustice that led him to commit a crime.
I do not condone his actions – endangering lives and violating public order and safety laws. However, there may have been compelling reasons as to why Mr. Paray took such desperate actions, and it’s a matter we should look into. 1PACMAN Rep. Eric Pineda,
According to ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Nina Taduran, Paray’s complaints regarding maltreatment and bullying of private security must be investigated.
She urged the (PNP-SOSIA) or the Philippine National Police-Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies to look more into the complaints.
According to 1PACMAN Rep. Eric Pineda,
Mr. Paray never demanded money. His demand was that he wanted to be heard and explain his side,
And after 9-hour negotiation. Paray comes out of the explanation of why did he do the crime is because of the unfair treatment of his superiors. He also said that his superiors were involved in corruption.
He is just enduring the unjust and harsh working conditions just to remain under contract.
His statement resonated clearly and was heard here at Congress.
It is imperative that the House of Representatives, through its labor committee, to exercise its oversight duty on matters concerning the welfare and protection of our hardworking workers.
However, Paray should answer for his crime, Taduran said.
