Insta360 introduced on Wednesday its newest 360-degree camera, the X4 Air, which offers performance close to that of its flagship X5—but at a more affordable price point.

According to the company, the X4 Air is its lightest 8K camera to date, weighing only 165 grams. The “Air” name reflects its lightweight design, a label the brand has also used for other slim and portable devices.

The launch event, held in Quezon City and attended by technology journalists and influencers, also featured the debut of Insta360’s first 360 drone, the Antigravity A1, one of the company’s most anticipated products.

Compared to the original X4, the X4 Air offers notable hardware upgrades, including dual 1/1.8-inch sensors—a step up from the half-inch sensors of its predecessor—and replaceable lenses, a feature first introduced in the X5.

“With the X4 Air, we’re bringing 360° creativity even closer to everyone,” said Ray Deng, Country Head of Insta360 Philippines.

The company describes the X4 Air as “sharper, smarter, and smoother,” boasting several meaningful upgrades that make it lighter, more intelligent, and easier to use. Similar to the flagship X5, the X4 Air includes smart features such as Twist to Shoot, Gesture Control, and Voice Control, enabling users to start recording hands-free.

While the X5 still holds an advantage with its larger 1/1.28-inch sensors, which capture more light in low-light environments, most of the flagship’s features are also present in the X4 Air, according to the company’s comparison chart.

The Chinese camera maker appears to be positioning the X4 Air as its more affordable 360° camera option, with the Standard Bundle priced at ₱21,990, compared to the X5’s ₱32,990 price tag on Insta360’s official online stores.

However, the X4 Air Starter Bundle costs P24,990 and comes with a 114 cm Invisible Selfie Stick, Lens Cap, and additional battery. For a brief period, both packages come with a free one-year Insta360+ subscription, according to the firm.

360-degree drone soon?

In addition, company representatives hinted to the Antigravity A1 drone, which will compete with top drone manufacturer DJI, which earlier this year also entered Insta360’s market by offering its own 360-degree cameras.

The release date of the 360-degree drone on electronics store shelves was not specified by Insta360. However, they demonstrated how 360-degree aerial drone footage might change how drones are typically used to record footage.

360-degree drones have the potential to revolutionize the production of sweeping aerial action pictures due to their infinite framing and reframing capabilities.
