On Monday, singer-songwriter Janno Gibbs publicly criticized the police and demanded a formal apology, citing alleged mishandling of the investigation into the death of his father, veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, late last year.
During the press interview represented by his lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, Gibbs emphasized the need for accountability regarding the unauthorized release of a video featuring the deceased actor’s body.
Kapunan asserted, “During the investigation, there should be no leaks to protect the family’s privacy and confidential data. The mishandling of the case was evident, adding to the family’s shock on the same day as Valdez’s demise.”
Addressing the issue of apologies, Kapunan expanded, “If the question is who should apologize, it shouldn’t be limited to the investigating officers alone. Since three names are mentioned in the report, their superiors should also apologize. Under the doctrine of command responsibility, they share equal liability for the dissemination of the video, and their apology should be equally prominent.”
