The prime suspect in the disappearance of the missing beauty queen Catherine Camilon, identified as police officer Allan De Castro, has been terminated from his position by the Philippine National Police. Police Regional Office 4A chief Paul Lucas announced the dismissal during a press briefing on Thursday, January 18, citing De Castro’s conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
Chief Lucas pointed out De Castro’s inappropriate relationship with the beauty queen, revealing that De Castro, a married man with two children, had acknowledged having an affair with Camilon but had not provided any information about her disappearance. De Castro has been placed under restrictive custody. Alongside him, three others, including his personal driver and bodyguard Jeffrey Magpantay, and two individuals identified as John Does, were previously accused of kidnapping and illegal detention.
Reports suggest that De Castro’s relationship with Camilon was characterized by abuse, as evidenced by the discovery of 17 strands of hair, blood samples, and screenshots of threatening messages and verbal abuses. Camilon was last seen in a shopping mall in Lemery hours before being reported missing on October 12. Although she had informed her mother, Rosario, that she was at a gasoline station in Bauan, her actual whereabouts remained unclear. Camilon had mentioned plans to go to Batangas City for a meeting with Balisong Channel, an online media company where she was formerly associated, but the channel stated that she hadn’t visited since December 13, 2021.
De Castro was allegedly the person Camilon was supposed to meet on the day of her disappearance. On January 9, De Castro’s personal driver and bodyguard, Magpantay, surrendered to the police and willingly entered preventive custody. Camilon, who is also a public-school teacher in Tuy, participated in Miss Grand Philippines last July, with Nikki De Moura of Cagayan de Oro winning the crown.
