Male passenger on an Asiana Airlines flight opened the emergency door of the plane shortly before landing on Friday afternoon. The passenger claimed that he felt suffocated and had a strong desire to exit the aircraft as soon as possible.
As seen in video footage, the cabin of a jet flying into Daegu, South Korea was filled with wind as the door opened during landing, causing passengers to grip their armrests in fear.
A man in his 30s who was seated at the emergency exit appeared to have opened the door of the aircraft when it was approximately 700 feet (213 meters) above the ground and only two to three minutes away from landing in a city located 150 miles (240 kilometers) south of Seoul.
On Friday, Daegu International Airport witnessed a safe landing of a flight with an open door. All 194 passengers on board the flight survived the incident.
Several passengers reportedly fainted while others experienced breathing difficulties and were subsequently transported to a hospital.
As per sources, the man is presently undergoing mental distress and seems to be losing his stability. A police officer stated that the investigation was hindered due to his condition. He was unable to answer any questions as he was not in a normal state.
According to a 44-year-old passenger who spoke to Yonhap, there was chaos on board the flight as individuals near the door began fainting one after the other. Flight attendants made announcements over the intercom, calling for any doctors on board to come forward.
The individual expressed that they believed the plane was exploding. “I thought I was going to die like this.” he added.
