Tropical Depression Obet remained strong as it moved northwestward over the Philippine Sea towards extreme northern Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa weather specialist Chris Perez, Obet was last located 1,025 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon at 11 a.m. Typhoon warning.
This was moving north-northwestward at 15 km/h (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h (kph) and gustiness of 55 km/h (kph).
In preparation for Typhoon Obet, the local government of Allacapan in Cagayan has prepared 27 barangays. Another batch of relief packs will be delivered this week, according to Allacapan Vice Mayor Yvonne Florida.
The distribution of over 2,000 relief packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development for those affected by Typhoons Maymay and Neneng was completed on Tuesday.
“Our rescue and relief packs have been positioned, and we are on full alert,” Florida added.
Farmers were still salvaging their rice fields that had been submerged in floods and mud caused by previous typhoons before the impact of Typhoon Obet was felt.
However, nine Claveria fishermen were rescued after their boat capsized off the coast of Fuga Island. The victims were on their way to sell animals when the force of the waves destroyed some parts of their boat.
