President Marcos has nominated director Paul Soriano as Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications, according to Malacañang.
Malacañang made the announcement in response to allegations that Soriano, one of the President’s most vocal supporters, would be taking up the position.
According to the Palace, Soriano will take the oath as early as Monday afternoon, October 17.
Toni Gonzaga, a TV personality and actress, is married to the award-winning filmmaker. Both are well-known Marcos fans.
Soriano was a consultant for the inauguration setup and oversaw the President’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA). Meanwhile, Gonzaga headlined Marcos’ campaign concerts and performed the National Anthem at his inauguration.
Soriano announced earlier this year that he is the nephew of First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos.
Soriano told ABS-CBN News earlier this month that he was being considered for the position of press secretary after lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles resigned for health reasons.
Therefore, he believed he could better help the government behind the scenes.
“Yes, there was a conversation, but I feel that the position needs more qualified people to help the President,” Soriano said.
“I can be of better service behind the scenes working with the President’s media and communications team,” he continued.
Soriano directed films such as “Thelma,” “Dukot,” and “Siargao,” and he worked as an executive producer for award-winning films such as “Sunod,” which won best cinematography and best third picture at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival.
