Christina Aguilera released a new music video for her song “Beautiful” on the 20th anniversary of her album “Stripped,” and it’s as timely as ever.
In 2022 version, young men and women are seen being pressured by social media beauty standards.
They eventually learn to accept themselves for who they are because they are beautiful as they struggle to fit into what is considered perfect.
At the end of the music video, there is also a call to action. “In the last 20 years, since ‘Stripped,’ social media has transformed our relationships with our bodies, and in turn our mental health,” the text stated.
Disordered eating are linked to time spent on social networking sites. It directed viewers to christinaguilera.com for mental health resources and information.
“This needs to change,” the text stated.
In an Instagram post, Christina elaborated on the message of the song and music video.
“Today, it’s more difficult than ever to hear our own voice among so many others infiltrating our feeds and minds with mixed messaging… ultimately leading us to [tune out] our own truth and [self-worth],” the singer said.
She added that “Beautiful” still has an important message “to remember our core values outside of what’s being fed to us… to find a sense of balance and accepting ourselves for who we are.”
