Cortes, in Surigao del Sur, was shaken on Wednesday by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, was recorded at 9:12 a.m., according to a bulletin from PHIVOLCS.
Its epicenter was located 43 kilometers to the east of Cortes at a depth of 18 kilometers.
The following instrumental intensities were recorded by PHIVOLCS:
Intensity II – Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte;
Intensity I – Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Tandag, Surigao del Sur
No damage from the earthquake was anticipated, according to PHIVOLCS, however aftershocks might happen.
