Cignal seeks a third straight victory against a troubled Chery Tiggo in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference at the Filoil Flying V Arena on Saturday, hoping to maintain its sole lead.
On Thursday, the HD Spikers top the list with a perfect 2-0 record after campaigning to defeat the heartbroken Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, and 15-11.
Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos is expected to stick with the same starting lineup that featured new recruit Glaudine Troncoso, who made the most of her first start and scored 13 points, when they face the Crossovers, who are winless in two games, at 5:30 p.m.
Delos Santos’ masterstroke prevailed in that brought victory over Choco Mucho, as Troncoso, an Iloilo native for whom the previous team was Sta. Lucia delivered in that come-from-behind victory.
Ces Molina, who has averaged 18.5 points in two games for the team, believes the key is sticking to their game plan.
“Coach kept telling us to just play naturally and just execute our game plan that we practiced,” Molina said.
Creamline and PLDT, who face off at 2:30 p.m., are also hoping to avoid defeat.
The Cool Smashers and the Power Hitters both won their first games on Tuesday, with the ex defeating the Petro Gazz Angels 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 and the latter defeating the Crossovers 25-18, 25-19, 25-14.
Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza did come through for Creamline, scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively, to compensate for team captain and multiple-time league MVP Alyssa Valdez’s difficulties.
This year’s Open Conference Finals MVP had a forgettable night, scoring only eight points, her fewest in a long time. Mike Reyes, for her portion, should build on her earlier game’s solid 15-hit performance.
