Richard Gomez, a congressman from Leyte’s fourth district, spoke up about the insults he and his wife, Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres, got for their backing for President Bongbong Marcos.
According to an article in the Philippines’ Ultimate Showbiz Hub, the actor-politician and his wife were unconcerned about the unfavorable responses due to their political views.
“Nakita ko kasi na ganun talaga ang last election e. Kaya maaga pa lang sinuportahan ko na talaga si BBM. Sabi ko nga ‘wag niyo na kami i-bash kasi it’s an election exercise. Kung gusto niyo manalo ang kandidato niyo, ‘wag kami ang tirahin niyo at ikampanya niyo maigi ang presidentiable ninyo. Ang sa akin lang, ‘wag niyo kami awayin. Kasi kami isang boto lang naman ako. And with that, bumaba ang basher namin,” Richard Gomez remarked.
During the election period, the political couple was outspoken regarding their endorsement for the UniTeam. Richard even posted a picture of the PBBM’s cup in a convenience store.
Furthermore, Gomez has stated that now that he is a lawmaker, he wishes to assist the entertainment sector. He stated that he has watched ancient movies that were not restored, and that this component receives less emphasis.
With all of this, he stated that it is critical to create a film archive using government money. Gomez also hoped that ABS-CBN’s Sagip Pelikula project would encourage him to work for the same purpose of preserving old Filipino films.
“I would say na isa ako sa masusuwerteng mga artista na nakagawa ng pelikula, kasama ang mahuhusay na mga direktor at mga naging national artist sina Ricky Lee, sina Tony Mabesa, ilang beses ko nakasama ‘yan, si Marilou Abaya,” the actor-politician stated, adding that he plans to view his previous films.
