In honor of Eid’l Adha, one of the two main Muslim holidays, the Marcos government had announced July 9 to be a regular holiday.

Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez signed Proclamation No. 2 on July 6, 2022, which confirmed the proclamation.

“Now, therefore, I, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Saturday, July 9, 2022, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Adha,” the proclamation reads.

After the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos’ recommendation, the Palace issued the proclamation.

The proclamation states that “Following the 1443 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that Saturday, July 9, 2022, be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha.”

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos observing the Islamic Lunar Calendar recommended the dates, which were selected in accordance with their recommendations.

The Muslim holiday is usually observed by making a pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam, performing deeds of kindness, and enjoying a feast.

Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, is the other great feast of Islam.
