The Bantay Church Bell Tower was constructed in 1591 with the intention of serving as a watchtower for the town of Bantay, Ilocos Sur. For generations, the tower guarded the safety of the inhabitants of Bantay and Vigan. It is strategically placed on top of a hill, giving soldiers a fantastic vantage point over the villages.
On July 27, 2022, at 10 AM, the tower was sinking when the 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred.Â
