Ai-Ai delas Alas is preparing to treat some of her American admirers to baked delicacies as she opens her own bakery, Martina’s, in San Francisco, California.
Yesterday, July 11, the comedian announced this by donning a chef’s outfit and showing off baked goods on her Instagram feed.
“Martina’s sa San Francisco. Hello mga kababayans and Kapuso, friends and kapitbahay. Game na ulit ang ube pandesal at milk buns,” she said. “‘Yan muna dahil baka hindi kayanin ng katawang lupa ko.”
(Martina’s in San Francisco. Hello, fellow Filipinos and Kapuso, friends and neighbors. (Ube pandesal and milk buns are back, but that’s all I’ll provide for now because I may not be able to handle it.)
According to Delas Alas’ Instagram post from yesterday, Martina’s is headquartered in Union City in the San Francisco Bay Area.
So far, the company is only accepting orders from San Francisco residents, and clients are only permitted to take a maximum of two dozen doughnuts at a time.
“One woman baking lang ‘to, meaning ako lahat,” Ai Ai said.
Delas Alas launched her baking company from her Quezon City home in April 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak. She seems to have ceased operations in about August of last year, despite the lifting of community quarantine requirements.
Delas Alas graduated from Treston International College’s Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts’ baking program in November 2021. She acknowledged feeling like she was “going crazy” at the time, but the sessions helped her control her anxieties.
