The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned that the Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island may suddenly erupt with steam.

In a Phivolcs statement published on Tuesday, the volcano was described as exhibiting “slight activity.”
From five in the morning, the service noted 17 volcanic earthquakes in Kanlaon. 5 a.m. on Monday. Tuesday.

In addition, Phivolcs noted that the volcano’s “bahagyang pamamaga” (slight swelling) and “katamtamang pagsingaw” (moderate evaporation) with a 300-meter height and eruption in the northwest were also visible.
It issues the following warning: “Maaaring maganap ang mga sumusunod: biglaang pagputok ng steam or phreatic explosions.”

The 4-kilometer-long permanent hazard zone of the volcano and areas close to its crater are off-limits to visitors, according to resident volcanologist Andylene Quintia of Phivolcs, located in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
