Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon blew with ash on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Phivolcs announced on social media on Sunday morning that the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province experienced a phreatic eruption.
“This is to notify the public and concerned authorities of an ongoing phreatic eruption at Bulusan Volcano,” the agency stated.
The state volcanology bureau upped the volcano’s alert level from normal to Alert Level 1.
“Alert Level 1 status is now raised over Bulusan Volcano, which means that it is currently in an abnormal condition,” it stated.
According to Phivols, the phreatic eruption began at 10:37 a.m. and lasted around 17 minutes. Ashfall was reported in the Sorsogon municipalities of Juban and Casiguran.
“The event was poorly visible through cloud cover over the edifice although a steam-rich grey plume at least 1 kilometer tall was observed from Juban, Sorsogon and was subsequently observed to drift west,” the agency remarked.
Many people recorded videos of the volcano’s stream-driven plumes. The completely black smoke generated by the Bulusan volcano may be seen in the video. There is no visibility in certain parts of the province.
As a result, plans are being prepared for the evacuation of certain communities, as well as a warning not to near the volcano within four (4) kilometers. Phivolcs will continue to watch the Bulusan Volcano’s impending activities.
