Mayor Isko Moreno’s joke about exposing his son Joaquin to the LGBT community has caused outrage on social media.
Last April 19, Manila’s local chief executive and presidential candidate made the joke in the middle of his address during a rally in Butuan City.
During the event, Mayor Isko joked that he was presenting his kid to the LGBT community, adding that the booking is free.
He also made several statements that made the audience laugh, while some netizens were not impressed.
Mayor Isko joked during the rally, “Sa ating mga LGBT, mamaya iregalo ko sa inyo si Joaquin, libre ang bookin pero tikim lang, ‘wag kakainin.”
Some netizens may have raised their eyebrows in response to the mayor’s joke, with some reacting badly.
UP Lipad, a group that advocates for equal treatment regardless of s*xual orientation, also published a statement in response to the mayor’s joke.
The statement read “UP Lipad expresses deep concern regarding presidential aspirant Isko Moreno’s statement during his campaign speech in Butuan where he purportedly offered his son to the LGBTQIA+ community in the crowd.”
Mayor Isko has yet to make a statement on the matter.
