Police and Military Forces Ready for ‘Martial Law’-Like Lockdown in the Philippines

The police and military are prepared for the implementation of a martial law-like lockdown.

In an interview, head of Joint Task Force (JTF) Covid Shield, Lt. General Guillermo Eleazar told reporter that they have observed people still violating the guidelines on the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) the reason that they are preparing some other contingencies if ever President Rodrigo Duterte will implement martial law-like lockdown anytime in a certain areas of the country.

“The JTF Covid Shield… is ready for any scenario and is always ready to comply with the President’s order,” Eleazar clarifies in a statement.

The JTF Covid Shield is composed of different agencies of the Philippine Forces that include the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Meanwhile, President Duterte warned the public on Thursday during his message aired online, that if the people continue to disobey the lockdown rules he will order the military and police forces to takeover beginning on the following week.

Eleazar pointed out untoward situation taking place to the public display involving illegal cockfighting and drinking session.

“While the situation has improved, there are still, some people who violated the rules and even went to the extent of engaging in illegal cockfighting and drinking session,” Eleazar pointed out.

According to report, the JTF COVID Shield and the PNP were able to accosted about 120,000 curfews and ECQ violators all over the country.
