Pasig City will give out P1 billion to help the city’s residents rebuild their lives, for the almost a month of the lockdown of the entire Luzon. The government of Pasig will give cash aid from the national government that will only cover 93,000 of Pasig’s poorest families.
The government withdrew from its trust fund and postponed some projects to give P8,000 each to 150,000 other families, said the Pasig city, Mayor Vico Sotto.
He said during an interview in DZMM, “Hindi po kailangan na botante. Basta residente ng Pasig bibigyan po.”
Sotto also asks the wealthy residents of Pasig to decline the cash aid for the government doesn’t have enough time to distinguish who among the residents is more needed supplemental assistance.
He explained, “Hindi na po tayo mamimili. Ina-assume po natin na kung tatanggapin po nila iyong tulong ay nangangailangan po sila.”
The mayor said that the city government has yet to get the social welfare department’s approved list for the 93,000 families who will get aid from the national government.
It will take 7 days to distribute this assistance and “another one to 2 weeks” to give out the city aid, he added.
Aside from cash, they also distributed 400,000 food packs to residents and food coupons to students.
