Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia is pleading employers of the city to grant gratuity pay for the employees to sustain the needs of families amid COVID-19 pandemic.
According the Executive Advisory No. 2 Series of 2020, business representative during the meeting, Mr. Edgar Sy forwarded the plea to his fellow businessmen which convey the message to pay at least one (1) month gratuity pay to employees during the period of community quarantine.
The gratuity pay can be understood as a form of tip paid by the employer to the employee for services offered in the company on top of their salaries and 13th month pay.
The Office of the President placed the country under state of calamity due to the coronavirus disease of COVID-19 pandemic. The Metro Manila was under “enhance community quarantine” while city and municipality leaders reflected the same precautionary measure on their respective places to contain the spread of the deadly disease including the city of Bacolod.
It is understood that the said recommendations shall cost business sector of financial loss but employees must be aided to survive especially during this time of crisis.
