Philippines Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is now under home quarantine and waiting for the test results for the COVID-19, Duque says on Friday that he was “okay.”
Recalling that the health secretary was tested for the coronavirus disease because he is asthmatic and hypertensive, the Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Wednesday.
Secretary Duque told DZMM that, “I’m okay, I work. Iyon lang binabantayan ko iyong asthma ko saka iyong hypertension kasi mga pre-disposing factors din iyan,”
(I’m monitoring my asthma and hypertension because those are predisposing factors.)
“Wala naman akong bagong symptoms,”
(I have no new symptoms.)
He added that he and his wife, are monitoring each other. His wife was also a doctor and has a cough.
He said, “Nagbabantayan kaming dalawa from afar,”
(We are watching over each other from afar.)
On Tuesday, Vergeire had confirmed that a DOH director in the agency’s central office was tested positive for COVID-19.
Recently, the DOH said that the COVID-19 test would be administered only to the elderly and patients who have been exhibiting symptoms of the disease including fever, headache, cough, and colds. Due to the limited number of testing kits in the Philippines.
