Dr. Guyan Yi Says CORONAVIRUS is 10x Worse Than SARS

A Virologist who helped fight SARS says Wuhan Coronavirus is 10 times worse than the epidemic 17 years ago. According to Dr. Guyan Yi, director of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Hong Kong, the “golden period” to contain and eradicate the virus had already passed. “I have experienced so much and never felt scared. Most viruses are controllable, but this time I am scared,” said Dr. Guan Yi.

As of Jan. 24, there are more than 830 confirmed cases and 26 deaths linked to the 2019-nCoV virus in China, according to The Washington Post. Dr. Guan Yi who was in Wuhan this week said that he had to “escape” after observing an appalling lack of preventative measures by the local authorities.

The coronavirus was reported in Wuhan, China on Dec. 31, 2019. Currently, the virus has spread to various other countries, including Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States. The symptoms of Coronavirus; fever, cough and difficulty breathing. These symptoms are similar to those caused by SARS.

Scientists now believe that the virus may have possibly spread to humans from snakes or bats. Dr. Guan said the sources of infection had “spread out completely”.

According to the CDC, there are no specific treatments for coronavirus infections and most people will recover on their own. You need to take a rest and medication to relieve symptoms. A humidifier or hot shower can help to relieve a sore throat and cough.

If you feel sick, you should drink a lot of fluids and rest but if you are worried about your symptoms, you should see a healthcare provider. There is no vaccine for the coronavirus but researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health confirmed they were in preliminary stages of developing one.

The National Institutes of Health confirmed Tuesday it’s in the “very preliminary stages” of research to develop a vaccine, but declined to provide details.
