Thailand teenager collapsed and died due to overnight playing video game during his school holidays.
The victim is identified as Piyawat Harikun, 17-yearold choose to stay in his room at Udon Thani, Northern Thailand during his free time playing multiplayer battle game on his PC.
According to his parents, Piyawat plays computer game all night and when the morning comes he draw the curtains to cover up the sun rays entering the room and continue playing game.
His parents bring him food in his room and advised him to stop playing game but he refused from his being obsession.
His father Jaranwit enter the room on the following day, Monday afternoon and found his son collapsed in front of his computer. Being a trained air force he tried to revive his son but no avail because his son is already dead.
He said: “I called his name and said ‘wake up, wake up’ but he did not respond. I could see he was dead.”
Findings of the medics who examined the cause of his death said, the teenager died from stroke, which expert believed it was a caused of long time engagement in computer gaming.
His father admitted that even if his son performed well in the class but he believed he is addiction in computer gaming becomes their problem and they have not find solution to stop his addiction.
“I tried to warn him about his relentless long hours playing games and he promised to reduce it, but it was too late.
“He had already died before he had a chance to change.
“I want my son’s death to be an example and warning for parents whose children are game addicts. They need to be stricter on their children’s playing hours, otherwise they could end up like my son.”
Dead body of the boy was taken to the hospital in a nearby Buddist temple for funeral arrangement.
