Breaking News! A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hits Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on Friday afternoon, June 3, 2017. According to the United States Geological Survey, a 6.8 magnitude quake hit near a volcanic island chain located between Alaska and the Russian coast.
The quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles), 199.1 kilometers (123.7 miles) northwest of Attu, the westernmost and largest of Alaska’s volcanic Aleutian Islands.
It was recorded at 2224 GMT.
