“Na-Ano Lang,” is the words of Sen. Tito Sotto used to say when he described a woman who becomes a single mom. According to PEP, that word is normally used by Senator Sotto and some other of his friends when they are hosting the noontime show program, “Eat Bulaga,” which only applies to contestants in the program having children but no husband living with them in the house and no other string attached to that statement.

The controversial issue of “Na-Ano Lang” started during the Senate hearing on Commission on Appointments (CA) last May 3, 2017 which undertook regarding presidential appointee of President Rodrigo Duterte. Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary-designate Judy Taguiwalo becomes the subject to this controversial online issue.

After all the questions of Senator Franklin Drilon to the subject, Judy Taguiwalo, Sen. Sotto raised his concerned addressed to the secretary asking personal question concerning Taguiwalo’s being a single mom.

The Senator started with this line: “On a lighter side, Senator Drilon and I were looking personal information about you.

“You have two children, daughters ba o sons…? But you’re single?”

Taguiwalo replied and straight to her answer: “My life has never been a normal one.” I never had a home-father-mother-children kind of thing, except when I was growing up in Bacolod.”

“Remember, I graduated from U.P. [University in the Philippines]. In 1970, I did organizing work. From 1972 up to 1986, it has been a life underground or in prison.”

“So, well, my story would be different from the stories from those who have gone through you know… U.P., corporation, etc.”

With that answers of Taguiwalo, Senator Sotto continued saying, “Yung sa… in the street language, when you have children and you are single, ang tawag dun, e, ‘na-ano’ lang.”

People of the gallery in the Session Hall begun to laugh following the last catching words of Senator Sotto, “Na-Ano’ Lang,” that became controversial on social media and spread so fast that becomes the most trending issue upon posting in the since that the netizens reacting against the senator’s informal statement.

Senator Sotto issued statement in reply to the controversial issue on “Na-Ano’ Lang” blaming it all to “Trolls” who have nothing to do but fueled the issue to become controversial in social media.
