The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announces a magnitude of 2.0 earthquake jolted for Batangas around 2:49 a.m., magnitude of 2.9 for Batanes at around 2:34 a.m., and magnitude of 2.2 earthquakes hits Surigao Del Norte on May 24, 2017.
Surigao Del Norte — The location of occurrence was recorded 10.11°N, 126.22°E – 019 km N 59° E of Burgos (Surigao Del Norte). Origin is TECTONIC and 024 Depth of Focus (Km).
Batanes — The location of occurrence was recorded 20.47°N, 121.98°E – 002 km N 59° E of Basco (Batanes). Origin is TECTONIC and 015 Depth of Focus (Km). Intensity I – Basco, Batanes
Batangas — The location of occurrence was recorded 14.00°N, 120.50°E – 016 km S 56° W of Nasugbu (Batangas). Origin is TECTONIC and 003 Depth of Focus (Km)
According to Phivolcs, No damages and aftershocks were expected from the three quakes.
Phivolcs added, “There is no reliable technology in the world that can confidently predict the date, time and location of large earthquakes.”
