The Department of Energy (DOE) assured that there will be comfortable and enough power supply for the incoming national elections and the rest of the summer time. The regulators has conducted meeting with the other source regarding to their preparations for the polls. From the conference,Monday (April 25) Enegy Sec. Zenaida Monzada said, Industry players are required to schedule their maintenance activities either a week before or a week after the elections.
In the days surrounding May 9, all plants must be able to operate – and at full capacity.
“We will have a comfortable power supply, especially in Luzon and the Visayas, throughout the summer and, of course, during the elections,” Monsada added.
Yet she noted, Mindanao still has a power shortage. But on May 9, all the supply will be diverted to voting centers. They already conducted a drill for ILP participants to make sure that all generators are working and have enough fuel just in case of the blackout. Monsada also said that there’s no need for emergengy powers. According to her, “If we saw a need for emergency powers, we would have said so earlier. There are only two weeks left before the elections. It’s a lesson learned from previous years.
