Pres. Aquino Declares State of National Calamity Due to Typhoon Nona

President Benigno Aquino III already stated Philippines as in national calamity as it can be seen the biggest damage had been caused by Typhoon Nona. According to the Communications Secretary namely, Herminio Coloma, Jr. that Pnoy stated already last December 18 to hurry the work in rescue, recovery, relief and rehabilitation and to exert much efforts with the damage brouth bu Typhoon Nona.

Philippines was last declared in national calamity last 2013 by Typhoon Yolanda. Now, according to some recent post, the ational Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council already have 35 of death toll due to Typhoon Nona and 20 injured.

Typhoon Nona

According to Pres. Aquino:

“This declaration will, among others, effectively control the prices of basic goods and commodities for the affected areas and afford the government ample latitude to utilize appropriate funds for rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of, and to continue to provide basic services to, affected populations, in accordance with the law,” the proclamation further states.

The proclamation also denotes that the state of national calamity shall remain in force and effect until lifted by the President.

Under Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, a state of calamity is “a condition involving mass casualty and/or major damages to property, disruption of means of livelihoods, roads and normal way of life of people in the affected areas as a result of the occurrence of natural or human-induced hazard.”

According to the NDRMMC report, a total of 76,796 families or 222,438 people were affected by the typhoon, and 132,122 houses were destroyed (23,614 totally and 108,508 partially).
