What is the reason why former beauty queen Precious Lara Quigaman became the hot topic in social media since January 17, 2015 during the third day of Pope Francis apostolic visit in the country?
According to report, Quigaman posted images in her Instagram account with the message quoting from the certain verse in the Bible in Acts 4:12 which implies the message that says, “There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby people can be saved,” which refers only to Jesus Christ and no other person on earth.
Even if Quigaman did not directly mentioned Pope Francis in her Instagram posts, but some of the Filipino netizen throw negative comments against her saying, “The beauty queen fails to respect the Supreme Pontiff.”
According to one of the netizen commenting her post, it says, “Wow, perfect timing? We know what this means, sad.”
“She could’ve posted this on a different day and not during these times when people are in so much awe of the Pope’s presence. She’s trying to imply something with this post,” noted by another netizen.
On her defense, Quigaman posted an image with the bold caption “Respect,” and explained the reason of posting Bible quotes.
According to Miss International 2005 the messages she posted on her Instagram account does not mean to offense anybody especially Catholic believers who are in owe to the Papal visit in the country. Contrary to some of the negative speculation about her posts, she clarifies that she never intend to hurt anybody. As a matter of fact, the Born Again Christian beauty queen did not mention a name on her posts to offend someone else. She said she respects Pope Francis and if she posted verses on her Instagram account she said that is for her personal reminder in order not lose her focus on Jesus.
“I respect Pope Francis. I am grateful to him for bringing home to our kababayans and making a lot of us smile. I think he is doing a great job,” Quigaman said.
“Whether you are a Catholic or a Born Again, we are all Christians – and you will find that in your Bible. I’m sure even the Pope believes these verses,” she added. “And you know what made me sad? People asking me to respect them when I think they don’t even know what it means to respect someone. You are the ones who are not respecting me and what I believe in.”
