During the blind audition of “The Voice Kids” aired on Sunday, May 24, 2014 at ABS-CBN, one little girl contestant from Cavite, Lyca Gairanod performs the hit song of Aegis “Halik” that amazed not only the coaches but the netizens as well on how a little girl like her got such a strong voice.

Upon the start of Lyca in her song, Coach Sarah Geronimo immediately turned her chair to see the little girl performing the song. And Coach Lea Salonga marveled also and she admitted that Lyca was hitting perfectly the high notes of the song. Coach Lea added by saying that Lyca has great potential to win the competition but she had to leave the coaching to Geronimo as she discern that Geronimo like her most since she was the first one turned the chair.

“Wala akong narinig sa boses mo na hindi tama–tamang-tama lahat. Pero pakiramdam ko kasi nu’ng umikot na si ate [Sarah] mo, parang meant to be kayong dalawa,” Salonga said.

The 9-year-old Lyca also shows positive response that Geronimo will be her coach when she was asked if she wanted Sarah to be her coach.

Coach Sarah Geronimo also shows her willingness to handle Lyca for her singing career development. In response to Lyca Geronimo said: “Bigay na bigay ‘yung puso mo sa pagpe-perform, tsaka dun sa kanta, kaya ako umikot para sa ‘yo,” replied the pop star to the little girl.

Lyca’s father is a simple fisherman by occupation, while her mom Maria Nessel used to live searching for used bottles and old newspapers.

In an interview, her mother admitted that seems she could not believe that her daughter Lyca can made it to the “Blind Auditions” knowing that they have only low profile level in terms of social background.

“Di ko po talaga akalaing makakapasok kami sa ganito kasi ang alam ko pangmayaman lang ang mga ganito… akala ko walang chance,” she said.

At age of 9, Lyca also used to help her mother of the same occupation searching recyclable materials to sell in order to have enough money to buy food.

“Hindi po ako pinipilit ng nanay ko mangalakal, pero ginusto ko po para may baon po kami,” the kid said.
