Michael Christian Martinez is one among the finalists qualified to enter the Free Program event in Figure Skating after his successful performance in the Short Program yesterday night with the remarkable score of 64.81 points that make him advance to the finals among the Top 24.

Michael Christian Martinez, 17-year-old figure skater is the first athlete from a tropical country in Southeast Asia who made a history in the Winter Olympics joining the competition among the Top 24 finalists in the most popular sporting event in the Winter Games.
Michael Christian Martinez is a Filipino athlete ranked number 19 among the Top 24 finalist to enter in the said competition of the Figure Skating Free Program category at the Iceberg Skating Place in Sochi, Russia which performance held Thursday night.
During the Free Program competition, Michael Christian Martinez was the number 5 performer out of 29 other skaters from 21 different nations joining the competition. One among the 29-skaters is the two-time Olympic gold medalist, Plushenko from Russia, but because of the unexpected injuries he withdrew himself from the competition.
Below is the list of 24 athletes to compete for the finals. Names are listed according to their ranked in the competition. It is noticeably, that the athlete from Japan, Yuzuro Hanyu ranked number 1 with the score of 101.45 which have 3.93 points lead against the three-time world champion Patrick Chan of Canada who ranked number 2 in the competition.
