The condition is known as X-linked Dystonia Parkinsonism, or “lubag syndrome” in the local community. Medical professionals found the inherited disorder and determined that the condition worsens over time. Involuntary motions, muscle stiffness, slowed movements, convulsions, and speech problems are all symptoms of a strange disease that has its roots in Panay. Over 500 men have already been impacted by the sickness.
“XDP, it is known to cause progressive dystonia with or without parkinsonism among Filipino males with maternal roots from the Panay Island in the Philippines,” Evangelista Medical Specialty Hospital adult neurologist Dr. Johanna Melissa Destriza stated.
“To be honest, up until this moment hindi rin namin masagot kung bakit talaga sa Panay Island lang and hindi pa namin napagtatagpi-tagpi lahat kumbaga kulang pa yung mga datos natin para masabi na eto talaga yung reason,” Ong said.
Dr. Jed Ong, a movement disorder neurologist at Makati Medical Center and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, noted that while some female patients are diagnosed with this ailment, the symptoms are less than in men.
