Authorities arrested a police officer after he shot his wife to dėath inside a Cebu precinct while filing a complaint against him.
On Christmas Day, a wife was kìlled after her husband was shot by a police officer inside a police station in Naga City, southern Cebu. Heronia Mata, 39, was identified as the victim by Lt Col Junnel Caadlawon, chief of Naga police.
Heronia reported her husband, Staff Sgt. Fernando Mata, 35, to the police station. According to the police, Heronia was at the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) processing her complaint against Fernando.
At 2:40 p.m., Fernando arrived. and repeatedly shot his wife with his service weapon. Fernando did not flee after he was apprehended. According to the report, his service weapon was found on a table inside the office.
On the way to the hospital, the victim diėd. According to Caadlawon, the two argued at their home in Barangay Tuyan, Naga City, before the victim went to the police station to file a complaint against Fernando.
Heronia had already sued her husband, claiming that he had beaten her repeatedly. However, following the resolution of their argument, no charges were brought against the suspect.
The couple had two daughters, according to the investigators. The WCPD office is on the second floor of the police building. The suspect, the victim, and the WCPD officers who attended to the complainant were the only three people present when the incident occurred. Caadlawon claims that the suspect will face murdėr-related charges.
