ELIGIBILITY AND EXTRA BENEFITS OF THE IMPLEMENTED AMENDED SOLO PARENT WELFARE ACT The Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 has authorized RA 11861, or the amended RA 8972, as the “Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000.”

According to Ms. Jewel Rose Galiga, Social Welfare Officer 3 of DSWD-Region VI, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, there are numerous other perks and categories under the abovementioned law.

To begin, a single mother or father who is responsible for one or more children under the age of 22 can apply for a single parent ID. Similarly, wives and spouses of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who have stayed in the Philippines and have been in another country for one year but are not qualified or fall into the low income category of the DSWD can now apply.

Grandparents who maintain their grandkids solely on their own, without the assistance of other relatives, are also included in this group. According to Galiga, these are the additional conditions of RA 8972, where it is merely added to prior beneficiaries of the legislation such as the victim of exploitation; has a wife or husband in jail; those who have been abandoned by their spouses; and those who live alone with children.

How many advantages are there? 7 days of leave for employee beneficiaries; a 1K monthly subsidy; a scholarship program through TESDA, DepEd, or CHED; and a 10% discount on the purchase of milk, diaper supplements, or diapers for children under the age of six. The 4P’s recipients are no longer eligible for the program, but older citizens and people with disabilities are.

One of the requirements for persons interested in participating in the program is that their annual income does not exceed P250K. Take note that it was signed by DSWD Sec. The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 11861 were issued by Erwin Tulfo in September of this year and are expected to be implemented by the end of 2022.

You may only go to the Municipal or City Social Welfare and Development Office in your LGU for further information and to apply for this agency program.
