Lara Quigaman talked candidly about her experiences teaching preschool in Canada and how much she loves her new job.

The former beauty queen stated that teaching has been enjoyable and meaningful in an interview with Karen Davila on her YouTube channel.

She said, “I love it, sobra akong nagi-enjoy. It doesn’t feel like work at all. Especially in Canada, lalo na dun sa center where I work, it’s a play-based center. So talagang obviously with intentionality ‘yung pag-prepare ng mga gagawin namin, but it’s just like playing with them while you’re teaching them, while they’re learning. Sobrang nagi-enjoy talaga [ako].”

Lara also discussed the distinctions between teaching in the Philippines and Canada.

“Dito kasi [sa Philippines] di ba, we have cleaners in school, dun kasi we do everything. We clean washrooms, we throw garbages, kami lahat… all-around kami. Meron nga akong co-teachers I guess from the Philippines na hindi sila sanay na ganun. [Sabi nila], ‘Grabe dito noh nagtatapon tayo ng basura.’ But I really enoy everything. Basta sobra akong nagi-enoy. It’s really humbling but I really love evertyhing that I’m doing,” she said.

The former Miss International also talked about the difficulties she had while pursuing her Early Childhood Education Diploma.

“Nag-full load ako so it was really hard kasi I have three [children] at home, and then I have to do my homework. Ang dami kong kailangang gawing paperworks,” she recounted.

Lara said she is proud of herself for graduating with honors in spite of the challenges.

She said, “I am [proud of it] kasi ang hirap, pinaghirapan ko talaga ‘yun. Grabe talaga ‘yung late hours, late into the morning pa. Go to school with no sleep, tapos ang hirap pa minsan pumasok kasi halimbawa may sakit isa sa mga anak ko, then I have to go to school, I have to go to college.”

Lara earned her diploma in early childhood education in June of 2025.
