Hong Kong’s Chinese New Year procession will once again feature a Philippine dancing ensemble.

According to a statement issued by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the Masskara festival dancers from Bacolod will perform at Tsim Sha Tsui on February 17, their second year participating in the event.

Other international performers, including the French ensemble FierS à Cheval, the Chinese mainland’s Xi’an Acrobatic Troupe, the Canadian group Les Vitaminés, the Australian group Manly Seabirds, and the Italian group Cromosauro, will join the group.

With the slogan “Best Fortune, World Party,” the forthcoming night parade will embody the vivacious nature of the horse, which is this year’s Chinese zodiac.

Visitors can also anticipate additional festivities throughout the city, including the Lunar New Year fairs at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay and Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok until February 17; the festival of well wishes in Lam Tsuen from February 17 to March 3; the parade floats at Kai Tak Sports Park from February 18 to 26; and the Year of the Horse Raceday on February 19, according to HKTB.

More than a million Filipino tourists visited Hong Kong in 2024, making the Philippines one of its main tourist destinations.

In addition to Hong Kong Disneyland, the city’s cuisine, shopping, and art draw large numbers of visitors, as do its natural and health-related attractions.

As Hong Kong celebrates the Year of the Wood Dragon, a Filipino dance group will join artists from around the globe.

They join 13 local and 16 international organizations, including the Tibet Chamdo Troupe, the Guangxi Arts Troupe from China, the Light Dancers from Spain, the Universe of Lights from Germany, and Japan’s Avantgardey.

In October 2023, the Barangay Granada Masskara Dancers won the Bacolod MassKara dance competition for the fifth time. In New York last June, they also performed abroad.

In addition to the dancing performances, nine floats from well-known attractions like Ocean Park Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland will be featured in Hong Kong’s Chinese New Year Night Parade. The tournament is coming back after a five-year break, and Cathay is the title sponsor.
