After being ordained as a pastor-in-training at Favor Church Manila, Edward Barber began a new chapter in his life. At a recent Leaders Advance, the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate and actor was formally recognized and given a ministry commission with other church leaders.

As a finalist on Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7 in 2016, Edward originally gained notoriety when he and Maymay Entrata established the well-known love team “MayWard.” Later, he established a stable career with ABS-CBN as an actor, host, and singer, making appearances in a number of movies, TV shows, and youth initiatives. He has continuously discussed his Christian religion outside of the entertainment industry, frequently offering insights on purpose, service, and personal development.

Edward revealed that he discovered his calling in ministry in a July 2024 interview with TFC’s BRGY.

Edward recalled that he began to rekindle his faith and seek God’s direction amid the darkest moment of his life.

Edward continued: “It was really a moment when I’m like, ‘God I have everything that the world is telling me I should want. I have the following, I have the projects, I have the money, and I feel like so empty?'”

In an effort to discover his calling, the Kapamilya host then began going to a nearby church.

Edward revealed that he became more involved in the church after that and discovered that becoming a lay pastor was his calling.

Edward said that while he won’t be abandoning the entertainment industry, he will explore ministry if the time comes for him to make a decision.

“I’ve seen hosting as my work and I love it. I love the people with me. But at the end of the day if I have to choose between the two, I will probably choose the ministry,” he said.
