After the deadly residential fire in Hong Kong, K-pop girl group TWICE generously donated one million Hong Kong dollars, or around ₱7.5 million, to support recovery operations.

On December 4, their agency, JYP Entertainment, announced that the donation was made via Hong Kong World Vision. JYPE conveyed the group’s sorrow at the event, stating that they were in mourning alongside the impacted families. “The latest fire in Hong Kong has caused us great sadness. Every member of TWICE is also experiencing intense sadness.

The donation will help with emergency relief, which will include giving impacted residents and children temporary shelter and psychological support.

The organization honored individuals who reacted during the crisis and carried on with its message, wishing the community strength and healing. “We sincerely hope that all affected residents can overcome their pain and regain stability as soon as possible, and we express our deepest condolences to the victims. We also pay deep respect to the rescue workers who remained dedicated in the face of crisis,” the part of the statement read.

On November 26, a 32-story apartment building at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po caught fire, causing devastation. The deadliest fire Hong Kong had seen in decades, according to the most recent sources, claimed 159 lives and left an estimated 4,000 residents homeless.

In the meantime, TWICE performed as planned on December 6 and 7 at the nation’s 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium. According to JYPE, they “considered carefully and discussed in-depth whether to go ahead with the event at such a painful moment.” The decision was made after long discussions and careful observation of the situation.

“Given it was a decision made in such a difficult situation, we will solemnly prepare for and execute the performance,” the agency stated, acknowledging the significance of their decision.

TWICE sent a joyful message and pictures from their first concert night on Instagram to express their gratitude to the attendees following the successful first day of their performance. The caption read, “Hong Kong ONCE, thank you for sharing this moment with us 🌟 We truly cherished this time with you 🎶🐯.”

After earlier declaring that she will take a brief hiatus from activities following her diagnosis of vasovagal syncope, Chaeyoung was not present during the tour.

After performing in Kaohsiung in late November, the Hong Kong leg was a part of their This Is For globe tour.
