Social media personality Rendon Labador has lauded Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy for his role as the host of the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. Despite Labador’s appreciation for Koy’s hosting gig, he expressed disappointment in the comedian’s handling of criticism.

Labador, a motivational speaker, shared that he had a negative experience when Jo Koy responded to critiques by making excuses and even blaming himself. The comedian’s self-deprecating approach to address the negative feedback, particularly regarding his off-putting and controversial jokes, left Labador with an unfavorable impression. Despite the initial commendation for Koy’s hosting stint, Labador’s encounter with the comedian’s response to criticism led to a less favorable perception of the overall experience.

According to Rendon, Jo Koy should have refrained from making excuses and becoming defensive in response to critiques of his performance as the host of this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

“Ang tanga talaga ni Jokoy at sobrang hina, hindi lumaban.Dapat hindi na nagdahilan na 10 days lang at hindi na dapat nanisi ng ibang writers niya dahil sa kapalpakan niya. Dapat ginamit niya yung ‘attention’ na nakuha niya para ipakilala yung totoong sarili niya at hindi yung nag-’drama’ at ‘nanisi pa ng iba,” Rendon said.

He expressed that it isn’t appropriate for Jo Koy to use the limited preparation time, given just 10 days to host the award ceremony, as an alibi or justification. The underlying concern, according to him, revolves around why Koy accepted the hosting offer despite the time constraints.
