According to a Filipino community official in Ankara on Thursday, a Filipino who was previously believed dead in earthquake-hit Turkey has been rescued and is now safe.
However, Cherilyn Santos informed Super Radyo dzBB that four other Filipinos who resided in the same building as the rescued Filipino are still missing.
“Kahapon may na-recover na isang kababayan natin na two days ago, napabalitang patay, kinonfirm ng amo na patay. Pero na-recover siya kahapon lang ng hapon. So far, safe po siya,” said Santos, president of the Filipino community in Ankara.
(Yesterday, one of our countrymen was recovered. S/he was reported dead two days ago by his/her boss, but s/he was recovered yesterday afternoon. So far, s/he’s safe.)
Santos stated that she is not permitted to expose the Filipino’s identify.
“Sa mga kababayan natin, meron pa talagang nawawala dahil magkakasama sila sa isang building,” she explained. “Lima po sila eh, pero na-recover na ‘yung isa.”
(There are five Filipinos residing in the same building who are still missing; one has previously been found.)
According to the Philippine Embassy in Turkey, two Filipinos were hurt in the earthquake and have since recovered.
The embassy also stated that its officials have begun visiting earthquake-stricken areas to deliver help and assess the situation of impacted Filipinos.
According to the embassy, the earthquake has harmed at least 248 Filipinos.
According to Reuters, the cumulative recorded death toll in Turkey and neighboring Syria has surpassed 12,000 people.
The Philippine government has dispatched an emergency response team to Turkey to assist with ongoing operations. The crew has already arrived in Istanbul, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
“Our response team just confirmed that they just landed in Istanbul,” said Diego Agustin Mariano, head of the OCD Joint Information Center.
He stated that the squad arrived in Istanbul at 12:08 p.m. (Philippine Standard Time).
The Manila International Airport Authority stated in a Facebook post that it assisted members of the Philippine Humanitarian Response Team as they passed through pre-departure formalities at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Wednesday.
The group, which included members of the 525th ECBn, PA, 505th SRG, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Department of Health, and OCD, boarded Turkish Airlines aircraft TK85 at NAIA Terminal 3.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had previously stated that an 85-man squad will be sent to Turkey.
