As the northeast monsoon, also known as the “amihan,” continues to weaken, the entire nation is awaiting a generally fine day on Friday, according to the state weather bureau.
The majority of Luzon and Visayas are affected by the amihan, or chilly winds blowing from Siberia, according to Pagasa weather expert Benison Estareja.
“Patuloy pa din po ang epekto ng amihan dito sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon at Visayas, bagama’t relatively mas mahina ito kumpara nitong mga nagdaang amihan nitong nagdaang linggo.”
(While weakening compared to the northeast monsoon in previous weeks, the effects of the northeast monsoon are ongoing in most of Luzon and Visayas.)
But according to Estareja, amihan will strengthen by mid-February and continue through the end of the month.
“In the coming days asahan po ang paghina ng amihan, magsisimula po ang pagbugso ng northeast monsoon sa kalagitnaan ng Pebrero,” he said.
(Towards the days to come, expect amihan to continue to diminish; but, in the middle of February, it will start to strengthen.)
The meteorological expert predicted that amihan’s impacts would persist into the first week of March.
The whole Visayas, including Metro Manila, and Luzon, according to Pagasa, will only have light rainfall and partly cloudy to cloudy sky, while Mindanao as a whole will experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
Due to the amihan’s weakening strength, Pagasa did not also issue gale warnings for any national seaboards.
