The tectonic earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur today, January 3, 2023, was caused by a rupture in the earth’s crust. It was directed specifically at Hinatuan.
The earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur was located at 08.42° North, 127.12° East, or 082 km north of Hinatuan and 85° east of Hinatuan, with a depth of focus of 001 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
According to Phivolcs’ bulletin, no damage is expected from the quake, but there may be aftershocks. Intensity III was felt in Hinatuan and Lingig, Surigao del Sur, according to the agency. Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, was the location for the recording of Instrumental Intensity I.
