Taguig City’s P2 takoyaki goes viral after being shared on social media.
Takoyaki is a Japanese ball-shaped snack made of a wheat flour batter and cooked in a special molded pan. It is typically stuffed with octopus, minced or diced, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and minced onion.
With green leaves and dried bonito shavings, the balls are brushed with takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise. In 1935, a street vendor named Tomekichi Endo invented it.
The Facebook page “Sikat na Blager” has shared video footage of Taguig City’s most affordable takoyaki. The video footage elicited a wide range of reactions from the online community.
A street vendor can be seen in the video selling takoyaki for only P2.00. The cheapest takoyaki is available in three flavors: vegetables, cheese, and hotdog. It comes with either a vinegar or a sweet dipping sauce.
Every day, the seller can produce 2,000 takoyaki. The one-of-a-kind snack is selling like hotcakes, especially among students. It is quite different from traditional takoyaki, but it is sufficient to satisfy hunger.
Those looking for the cheapest takoyaki in the world can find it behind the Taguig City Hall of Justice in Barangay Upper Bicutan.
