When heavy rain and lightning fell while the group was riding a Ferris wheel in an amusement park, they were terrified.
Bryant Duldulao can be seen in a viral video on social media, where he appears to have just laughed and joked about their situation while riding the ferris wheel in the Enchanted Kingdom while it’s raining, according to a report by Cedrick Castillo on GMA News “24 Oras” this Thursday.
As the ferris wheel rose, heavy rain fell, followed by lightning.
“Kabado po ako kasi hindi ko po expected na umiikot po ‘yung sinasakyan po namin eh ang lakas ng hangin doon sa taas,” Duldulao stated.
“Talaga pong sumisigaw po ako kasi hindi ko na po alam gagawin ko… nag-hysterical na po ako actually noong nasa taas. Sumisigaw na po kami pati ‘yung ibang mga nakasakay, sumisigaw na rin po sila na ihinto na lang din po ‘yung ride,” they stated.
The operator is said to be disembarking the ferris wheel riders one at a time and suspending its operation.
Other employees are said to have assisted them and apologized.
Enchanted Kingdom has been contacted for comment, but an official statement on the incident has yet to be issued.
Engineering Consultant for Occupational Safety and Health Engr. Allan Cuya, what those in the viral video went through was extremely dangerous.
“Napakadelikado dahil ‘yung hawakan, ‘yung dulas. Salamat at nakaupo siya pero at the same time ‘yung bagsak ng ulan, siyempre dahil medyo panicking ang dating ng tao,” Cuya stated.
Cuya also mentioned the possibility of such amusement rides being struck by lightning.
Expert advice to the public: have the operator stop the rides if they encounter the same problem.
It is said that amusement parks in other countries have protocols in place when there is a threat of thunderstorms or lightning strikes. The same as postponing outdoor rides until the weather conditions improve.
According to GMA News Research, there is no national government agency in the Philippines that has set regulations for amusement parks.
It is up to the local government to issue them with permits. There have previously been bills introduced in Congress to regulate theme parks, but these bills did not pass.
