Jin of BTS has made an impressive debut on the Billboard charts with his solo debut single “The Astronaut.”
The South Korean singer made her debut on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 51. The chart lists the top songs in the United States.
The song “has achieved the highest debut of any Korean solo song on the Hot 100 this decade — and the third-highest of all time, bested only by PSY’s “Gentleman” (which debuted at no. 12 in 2013) and “Hangover” (no. 26 in 2014),” according to an article.
“The Astronaut” also topped the Billboard and World Digital Song Sales charts. It’s Jin’s first number one as a solo artist. The song also charted in Billboard’s Global 200 and Global Excluding United States charts, which track the most popular songs in countries around the world.
Jin’s previous solo singles “Super Tuna,” “Abyss,” and “Tonight” are all in the top ten of World Digital Song Sales.
In addition, Jin debuted at number ten on Billboard’s Artist 100 this week, his second week on the chart as a solo artist.
“The Astronaut” is Jin’s first official solo single, a dreamy song about his love for the BTS ARMY, on which he collaborated with Coldplay and performed in Argentina. Shortly after its release, the song debuted within the Top 20 of Spotify’s global chart and rose to no. 1 of YouTube’s trending music videos.
Jin is BTS’s second solo artist to release music this year, following rapper J-“Jack Hope’s in the Box.”
