The Philippines defeated Australia in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women at Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday, 21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, and 15-12, thanks to the heroics of opposite hitter Tots Carlos and outside hitter Jema Galanza.

Carlos led the way with 26 points, while Galanza chipped in with 18, as the Filipinos maintained their lead in the tiebreaker.

Celine Domingo, the middle blocker, also played well, with 11 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace in the two-hour and 19-minute match.

In an interview, team captain Jia Morado-De Guzman noted, “It took a lot of hard effort.” “Everyone did their jobs well, and we gave it our all.”

The Australians’ opposite hitters, Caitlin Tipping, Stefanie Weiler, and Rebecca Redgen, all completed with double-digit scores.

Tipping finished the game with 14 spikes, six blocks, and five service aces. She earned nine points in the third set, which Australia won 19-25 after a 15-3 lead.

Weiler contributed 17 points, while Redgen contributed 10 spikes, one block, and one service ace.
