Actress Giselle Sanchez gave two explanations for why she agreed to take on the role of “Cory” in the controversial movie Maid in Malacañang.
Giselle recently wrote about what made her want to participate in the heated movie and play a similarly popular role in her Gossip Girl article for the Manila Bulletin. The actress claimed she would just refer to her role as “her character” for legal reasons despite the fact that she is finally known to be the character “Cory” in the movie.
Giselle Sanchez explained that she agreed to do this for two reasons. She acknowledged that she is a fan of Darryl Yap, who wrote and directed the film.
“I have always wanted to do a project with Direk Darryl Yap as I am a big fan of his works as a writer and director starting from “Jowable” to “Gluta” to “Revirginized” that starred my idol Sharon Cuneta,” the actress stated.
The first explanation was this. The second reason, according to Giselle, was that Direk had mentioned wanting a “intelligent and educated lady” to portray the character of “Cory.”
When her character stated, “Get them out of the Philippines,” it was the first time she had heard that phrase. Giselle wondered if this part was worth it for her as an actress.
She texted Senator Imee Marcos to inquire about the validity of that specific case before publicly accepting the post. “Yun daw ang sabi ng mga Kano,” the sister of President Bongbong Marcos responded.
Giselle Sanchez stated that after realizing this, she understood that, in the 80s and 90s, all she had read in history books and print media, as well as all she had viewed and heard on mainstream media, was “the other camp’s side of the story because they were the ones’ sitting in the administration.”
